I have a totter out basement w/ a wood deck that comes out on the second floor. What is the best instrument to build a pergola over this? The house is stucco so I'm not sure if it's okay to connect it to the actual house. It would be somewhere around 15x10ft.

Answers:    You can attach to a stucco house. Your deck is attached.
you must extend the posts and then build a frame work. Look at the beneath side of your deck and do the same layout using rather smaller dimensioned lumber. once framed out you put your pergola shade boards up on edge, and your done. The extra weightiness of the pergola might be a concern, but I think it Will be buoyant enough to be OK
