I am attempting my first re-finishing and graphics job on an electric guitar and I'm not sure whether to use a chemical stripper or simply sand the tar out of it.
I would sand only as the paint striper may soften the glue that is to say holding it together
Is it a singular and collectable guitar or a $100 piece of firewood?
btw, if you use chemical stripper, make SURE you own either:
1) worthy fresh air flowing at adjectives times, or
2) just do it outside. The fumes can be horrid.
I have done both, when its adjectives said and done you will still need to sand the body, everything one you use.
Answers: Refinished various solid body electric guitars when I had my shop.
Hand stripping & sand are OK.

Basically did same prep & paint as for auto body work.
