Whoever built my steps to my basement must own been dropping acerbic or something. They are the most messed up things I've ever seen. I enjoy to walk down them sideways so I don't drop. The steps themselves are about 4" thoughtful with a commonplace 7" rise. They are a complete danger and I am shocked that the house passed inspection when it be for sale. Go amount? So, how do I go roughly speaking fixing them so I can walk down them customarily? Thank you in credit for responses.
I'm not much of a builder but hey check this website out and agree to me know what you think. I regard its pretty good near building stairs. http://www.make-my-own-house.com/stair-c...

If this is a wood staircase beside only 4" low treads, you'll need to replace the stair jacks beside properly cut ones in direct to install a tread of the proper depth. Cantilevering a tread past the cessation of the stair jack is dangerous.

Answers:    Keep in mind that, by making proper 7" (or whatever) treads, the angle of the stairway is going to be smaller quantity steep going down to the basement. That ability it will take more distance into the underground store for the new stairs. You also will be at a high elevation for a longer time as you go down stairs. Is at hand anything in the mode where you'll constantly be hitting your leader when you go up or down stairs?

Before you set give or take a few replacing those stairs, measure to see if at hand is enough room and overhead clearance for a proper stairway. That might be why those stairs be so small in the first place.
