How do you fix a running toilet? Please explain it as simply as possible...thanks :-)
Answers:    Lift the lid on the backside water container

Study the situation, is the float way down or is it implicit the top of the tank?

What I enjoy done with difficult tank that will not stop running is to bend the rod that goes to the float contained by the middle, so that the float is bent TOWARDS THE BOTTOM, not the top. What this does if NOTHING ELSE will stop the running water is to distribute a very low tech power-driven message to the flap to shut tighter, sooner.

A small bend makes a big difference, and it can other be straightened back out, of late a 1/4" bend can be enough to fix it.

If that doesnt do it, check the flapper or flap (typically a LARGE BLACK THING below water that closes past its sell-by date the exit drain to the toilet where the verbs water from the reservoir flows out) That can become...slimy or built up with residue. You may enjoy to clean that so it seal correctly.

Note that the flap generally basically pulls off, and go back on typically VERY assured. Its worth checking it, it will probably save you money by doing so. You can do it!! :)

These are two simple things that ANYONE can do and may reclaim you an expensive plumber bill. If they dont fix it, you may want to try replacing the flap.
call the plumber =p
