Answers: It really depends on the way the damper is set up. One of the best set ups is to drop a SS liner adjectives the way down the flue and connect it to the insert, this usually manner busting out the damper and enlarging an nouns to get the liner through, usually 6" diameter, some 8" diameter. The size should clash the collar on the insert, one size up would be okay but never downsize. If this is a masonry fireplace the flues usually are quite full-size, by dropping in a liner you are re-sizing the flue and the insert will vent better. On occassion I hold seen a sheet metal boot custom made to connect from the damper to the insert but after the flue is usually oversized. If you do drop in a SS liner it would be a apt idea to wrap the liner top to bottom near a ceramic wool blanket, this will also aid surrounded by drafting.
