My apartment in New York City is a hundred years ancient and there are no interior doors. I would resembling a door for the bedroom so I can keep the AC surrounded by there this summer. All the doors I see at Home Depot and Lowes are 80 inches high. I need to fit an 84 inch frame. Can I build one from scrape or adapt a regular sized door? I might be capable of design something (I'm slightly handy but I usually have trouble beside installing door frames and doors). If there be designs or information already in existence it would recover me some time and swollen thumbs.
The other answers tell you around doors, but have you considered alternatives? Depending on how attractive you want the entry, a sliding curtain will keep hold of the AC in the room and be much easier to install. Think along the lines of something similar to a shower curtain and rod but more attractive. If you prefer a door, you will have to frame and vary as already suggested. Just a thought. Good luck.
You can make your own by using 2 door skins out of 4 by 8 sheets & achieve the right width interior wood X abt 3 inches all-embracing & make next to 2 outside strips, top & bottom strips & door latch area blocked surrounded by with roughly speaking 4 cross pieces & glue everything together.
You can also cut down some solid core commercial doors depending on how they are made.
I own done both of the above. Usually for my rentals, i just hold the door company that makes interior doors cheaply cause up a door & door frame as an assembly. Usually costs me about $100 for a special made interior one beside the handle & hinge installed.
Answers: If your apt is that old, it`s probably lathed and plastered. Check your wall compactness!
You may be able to remove the "plaster" on the sides, incorporate a 2x4 on the head and install a 32 inch prehung.
Ask someone at the store almost a "split jamb". They`re pretty easy to install and own some forgiveness for the wall thickness.
Don`t forget to state what mitt you desire.
