For some reason, the threads on the metal piece of the socket are worn or damaged and I can't screw a bulb surrounded by. I'm trying to figure out how to lug the socket part out and replace beside a new one, but I don't see any screw or anything, just what looks approaching a black washer at the top of the socket.
Answers: Should be small screws on the side of fixture. Right below the blades at hand should be 3 . With power off you can remove cable nuts and take reading light fixture out alltogether. If you want to change newly the socket , it should unthread once you can see the retaining nut
Are sure that u are looking at the lite socket or the broken part of the podium of a old lite bulb? Some lite sockets can be replaced others cant it depends of the concerned and if made in china or usa it may cost more than its worth.
