We've uncovered original ornamental cornice surrounded by our new property. How can we remove the paint build up from it to reveal the full detail of the original victorian plasterwork?

Thanks for your comfort.
"hunter" has it within one , disregard the others, even if they mean well.

If it's oil paint you have to use paint stripper next to wire wool available in hardware shops or D.I.Y stores and if it's emulsion paint afterwards you can use a steamer and remove a bit at a time using a sponge or cloth. hi I'm a painter and decorator, and i advise that you use Kling-Strip. or Stripper NB-510 or Stripper NB-610...here 's the link to the manufacturer so you can check it out yourself.http://www.stripperspaintremovers.com/I_...
Answers:    Peel away, its designed for exactly this. Nitromors is very good but not for what you entail.

go to the paint section of WAL-Mart. Look for the stain cubicle. There will be several strpper/ removers there. There will be one called "Dads" stripper. It works the best. Under $10. try an coarse wheel made of sandpaper,it fits into an electric drill,it worked for me.
try nitromors you can get it at most diy shops or try screwfix.com
it a liquid that strips adjectives of the paint but use rubber gloves and eye protection and a dust mask and open the window for ventilation Some information here. Looks like a long situation. I hope it turns out to be worth it...
