How do I hollow out wood? I have a circular piece of wood, going on for a foot...

I have a circular piece of wood, going on for a foot long and half an inch to an inch wide-ranging (looking at the bottom of it). I think my best bet is to thieve a screwdriver (with a big screw) and just drill a hole surrounded by it. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
A drill press ? I find a lathe works much better for long straight holes in diminish stock. A cheaper alternative is an iron rod, and a hot fire. Just burn the hole into the stock.

So, this wood is shaped like a big pencil, I filch it? Sorry to tell you this, but you hold a 1 in 100 likelihood of succeeding. To succeed at this, you'd need a drill press, a big electrical device that allows you to drill perfectly vertical holes. You'd also involve a very virtuous clamp on this drill press, plus a narrow bit a foot long. You're very soon into about $400, and that's going cheap.

Your best bet, if you hold one, is to very cooperatively use a electric hand drill, mortal mighty careful to jump in straight. I'd drill within from both ends, to increase your chances of not have the bit poke out the side of your piece. You'll still need bit extensions, or special long bits. Good luck -- you will obligation it.
Answers:    I dont know what your skill levels are or what tools you own, but you can use a hole saw, a sabre saw, jig saw, forstner bit, drill press or mitt held drill with appropriate bits. I hope this help you.
