I am not a plumber but I need to disconnect the sink & toilet. Can I do it myself? I know where on earth the stopcock is so can turn water rotten to do the job, but what tools would I call for to shut off so they don't work again?
Some clever bod will know that answer - me I get someone else to do it and I keep under surveillance the football...
You want some valves that you put on the ends of the pipes. When on, you use a flat blade screwdriver to close the tap, so you can turn the main hose down back on and not flood the house.
Make sure you obtain the right size too as normally they are any 15mm (cold) or 22mm (hot). You will need some wirewool or similar to verbs the ends of the cut pipe to ensure a good stamp.
Easy to fit on your own, need a fully clad sized adjustable spanner and some molegrips.
However, its its going to be permanent, self cap the ends rotten
Answers: Assuming they don't hold service valves ( worth a check - abundant cisterns and basins oftenhave service valve underneath the sink )
You'll need to cut the pipes and any insert stop ends or service valves. best to jump with compresssion joint if you are not used to soldering. A wearing clothes trade plumbers merchant will show you the bits. Find one on your local trading estate.
So really, you need a junior hack saw ( or pipe cutter ) and a couple of spanners.
Materials would be 3 15mm compression stop ends and a lurch of PTFE tape.
Method:
Water sour
open tap to relieve pressure.
cut pipes
slide compression nut over pipe end, later olive
wrap PTFE tape over thread a couple of turns
tighten two halves of completion stop together.
do all three, turn marine on a little bit to build up pressue
check for leak
tighten up if necessary
undo house stop valve fully
Sit subsidise, cup of tea, admire your handicraft.
Issue yourself an invoice for lb50 and have the self-satisfaction of saying "Ha, not a chance" and throwing it over your shoulder.
Oh, and an ancient cloth to mop up
best of luck with it.
