How do I get hold of refurnished furniture to shine? I just sand my old hutch and it's all set for stain....
I just sand my old hutch and it's all set for stain. The guy at Home Depot told me that the stain in Minwax already have a sealer in the stain, so I assumed that it would shine. But, the after I applied the stain to a check spot, there be no shine.
After I fininsh applying stain, do I need a different sealer such as varnish or laqaur? Which one should I use?
Answers: I WOULD LIKE USE A VARNISH ON IT AND IT WILL BRING IT OUT BETTER LOOKING. TRY A SMALL PIECE OF WOOD STAIN ON BOTH OF THEM THAN AFTER IT DRYS ON IN EACH DIFFERENT CAN OF VARNISH AND THAN THE NEXT ONE THE LAQAUR AND LET THEM DRY THAN MAKE YOU CALL WHICH YOU WANT TO SEAL IT WITH....
polyurethane is more durable than laquer and smaller quantity finicky to apply. although, with polyurethane, you enjoy to sand lightly inbetween coats. varnish is a flawless choice also. they come is varying shines - satin, semigloss, gloss
if your stain is grease based, you enjoy to use an oil base topcoat - polyurethane, varnish, or laquer
if your stain is waterbased, use a water base topcoat - polycrylic
