How do I alter a bookcase? I'm completely without handyman skills so hopefully someone could sustain with this....

I'm completely without handyman skills so hopefully someone could sustain with this. I found an antiquated solid wood three shelf bookcase and want to try and convert it so my six year old wont verbs his playstation (which he got for xmas) on the floor when hes playing it. My theory is use the bottom two shelves for games etc and the top one enclose next to only a hole for his controller lead. If I turn it back the front here is a thin funding board which I could remove. But if I do that I'd need to find something else to close up the top shelf and put holes surrounded by that. Alternatively I could cut of the bottom section of the finance board and put a hole in the top piece and tack at the bottom where on earth its been cut. Is any of these options viable and if so what tools would I have need of to do this successfully. Thanks
Answers:    I think a strip of wood placed simply above the top shelf is a good concept. You only want to hang on to the console from being pulled bad the shelf, not seal it surrounded by. If you were to steal the wood strip and attach it from one side of the case to the other in the order of an inch above the top shelf, you could run the cords under the wood strip (as challenging over) and there is no method your son could pull the winter sport off the shelf. I would purely want to be very sure he couldn't verbs down the entire cabinet, and that the cords were long satisfactory to comfortably reach his playing position.
One other piece of suggestion; these book cases get much of their structural support from the protection. Drill holes in it if you must, but don't remove it. Good luck!
There is not satisfactory info about the bookcase to satisfactorily answer your question but if you are worried almost your child pulling over the bookcase then I would put the controls on the bottom and storage at the top. Maybe you could put in more detail about setup. Where is the monitor, etc..
