I am renting my parents garage to help them out with money (long story) and it is huge! I would love to divide it and separate a room. How intricate would it be to build a wall?
what would i need and how would i go around doing it?
I don't want a curtain, the room will be 8' by 10' and i want actual walls, they can be thin, i just want them solid.
Thanks :)
Not tough at all.
Nail a 2 by 4 to the ceiling joists, drop a plumb smudge so you can mark the floor and nail a 2 by 4 to the floor. If it's concrete you'll entail to get a drill and special screws. Then staple vertical 2 by 4's every 16 inches on center, then screw drywall to both sides, then use amalgamated compound between the drywall sheets, sand, primer and paint...got your wall.

To build a wall you really need to know what you are doing. This could be dangerous if you do not bring it right. You want a solid wall, presumably Wood, Brick, or Block. First you need to have a plain knowledge of construction. Then you need rudimentary ability to do the job. You will involve assistance. Then you will need a whole set of tools. You will entail to be able to calculate volumns for materials, contained by order to quantify amounts.
I suggest that you build a studwork wall. This would involve building the wall frame in wood, utter 4" x 2", the verticals will need to be set out a maximum 18" apart, the horizontals will need to be fixed to the floor and ceiling respectively. Both failure verticals will need to be fixed to the walls. Do not forget the leave yourself a door space. immediately you need to fix some
cross pieces in between the uprights, and these stipulation to be about 2ft/ 2.5ft but there is no physical measurement. If you do not want insulation in this wall, consequently clad both sides of the wall with "three eights" plasterboard 8 x 4. Add skirting board both sides, Door frame, door lining and arcitrave, fit door.
Decorate to suit.
Answers:    This is a pretty deep-seated task. The tools required will be a saw, a drill, and a hammerdrill. Measure the height from floor to ceiling at both ends. you will identify that the front of the garage is taller than the back, due to the pitch in the floor. Measure and snap a dash where you want the wall to go. Get an overall length for the wall you want to build and cut plates for the top and bottom. Holding them together, label a mark at 15-1/4", then every 16" along all along the plate. This is the edge of each stud. Cut your studs the height above sea level from floor to ceiling minus 3" for the plates. Nail through the top and bottom plates into each stud, being guarded to keep the studs square. After the wall is assembled, Have a friend help you stand it up. You may involve to beat it into place with a tack hammer. Set it to the line, hammerdrill a few holes, and fasten down beside Tapcon screws. Use a level to set the ends plumb, and staple to the ceiling joists. If the wall runs the same direction as the joist, you will need to install blocking between them for nailing. Have an electrician run wires if desired, and you are in position for drywall. Good luck.
