I just get a great deal on two IKEA Lack shelves, you can check them out here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produc...

I know what IKEA recommend, however I just required to see if there is something else I could do...because I am for a time iffy about IKEA's "security" when installing/building things. Especially if I plan to use them above our sleeping head! Thanks!
About the changing IKEA's mounting, in good health I've put a few up and the spacing of the pre-drilled holes will not match stud placement. To achive the floating effect that those ar expected to have you'll own to find the studs and mark the bracket acordingling, and later drill additional holes through the metal bracket. If you'd similar to, you can try to use wall achors, but be sure to get them exceedingly sercure and that your wall board is not crubling around them. The idea more or less the board isn't too bad any, you juat have to craft nice straight cuts. If you do use a board as backup, you may also want to slightly bevel it o the shelves will tilt towards the wall on top. Mounting them as instructed by IKEA may cause them to wilt a little and tip causig entry to roll off the front.

Oh, and follow the cargo restrictions when placing objects on them. I've beefed ours up because our 13 pound cat is constantly jump on them to test their strength on a daily basis. (And they're still on the wall.)

I'm not aware with the mounting hardware for these shelves, but I can enunciate that it is critical for the shelving to be attached to the wall studs, which in the US are almost other spaced 16" apart. Using a good stud finder, locate the edges of a stud. You can confirm the stud location by driving a small finishing pin several places into the wall. (These holes can later be patched beside spackle.) Then measure over 16" to find the subsequent stud, and 32" to find the stud after that. Your shelf anchors need to be driven into these studs. Don't attempt to use a plastic anchor within drywall where in that is no stud because it just doesn't hold the strength.

If for some reason the shelf mounting hardware is not compatible near wall studs on 16" centers, you can get a piece of 1x4 pine and mount it to the wall next to screws at the stud locations. Then mount the shelf to the 1x4. You may also find it adjectives to attach a lip to the front of the shelf to keep books and small objects from falling over the fringe. A piece of moulding like baseboard would do other.
Answers:    This type of shelf slides onto a 'bolt' type of bracket. Unless you plan on swinging from the shelf it is not coming down if installed with the hardware that comes beside it. FYI, hanging shelves over the bed is immensely bad Fung Shui.
