I'm making a table and it has Mortise and Tenon Joints, the problem is, is that the hole within the joint is too big and the joint lately slides in and out enormously very well and loosely. How can I make the hole smaller so it is a vastly tight joint where on earth I have to acctully sledge hammer the joint into place instead of it sliding surrounded by and out very smoothly ???
Answers: Depending on the gap I am dealing next to, I will use either toothpicks (put a small amount of Elmer's epoxy resin in the cleft, then put the toothpicks surrounded by, cut the excess toothpick off, wipe rotten the Elmer's that leaks out) and you will own a good solid integrated. For larger gaps, I would use shims, or mitt cut a piece to fit in the space. I like using Elmer's bonding agent in adjectives cases because it causes the wood to swell even more after you carry it in, and when it dries, it won't shrink up, making for a tighter, longer long-term joint.
Make a shim the bulk you need to tighten up and impossible to tell apart size as your tenon. Then glue it to the tenon so that you can shave it down it if you evolve to make it too tight.
