Gummy Polyurethane Floor...It never completely dried.? We recently sand, stained and put polyurethane on our 10X12 dining room...
We recently sand, stained and put polyurethane on our 10X12 dining room floor. The polyurethane never completely dried and has cause a gummy mess. We're trying to sand the floor to start over, but the polyurethane is too gummy to come up and uses too much sanding treatise. Help....what should we do?
Answers: the best way to start removing the gummy poly is to return with a wide scrapper next to a handle and and favourably scrap past its sell-by date all you can and next use a 20 sand paper to finish removing the rest. one press I have is did you agree to the stain dry good formerly you applied the poly. if you don't let the stain dry afterwards any poly you put on it will get gummy. I know its closely of work doing it again but that is the best road....have be refinishing floors for 10 years and have be through most of the problems...humidity and temperature even cause its share of problems
You need to telephone call the manufacturer of the poly and ask for sustain. Most likely they will suggest you place a couple of fan to blow on the poly to help cure it. But it sounds close to you either didn't stir it, it be expired, too cold in the room or your humidity be too high.
But no event what you will have to find it to harden and later resand.
