I have a pair of really cavernous pottery barn drapes that are a sage green color. They are velvet made out of cotton and polyester. After I paid a fortune for them, I am redecorating and would love to dye them any a chocolate brown color or a pretty blue. Which one would have more successful results and can it be done?? Oh I almost forgot... they are lined... so what can I do something like that? Would fabric dye be better or fabric paint? But I don't want it to look adhesive... I want professional results. Anyone that can help me with this would be so great. Thanks within advance.

Answers:    The only dye that will work on polyester is disperse dye contained by a boiling dye bath...

When using fabric paint on a substantial fabric it is impossible to get a uniform color which will quit your drapes with undesirable results, not to mention the ironing or steaming to adhere the paint, it would work if you needed them tie dyed or to just add shapes using stencils or stamps.

You will never acquire professional results. Since they're a poly blend, they won't accept the dye. Call a professional and get an estimate. Probably will be cheaper to buy modern.
