Im having a conservatory done and the company immediately wants to put a steel underpinning construction rather than concrete substructure. Any comments with regard to these bases? Im front to believe it gives insulation due to polystyrene one put in the floor, on the other hand they finish with wood.
My verbs is the wood...im wanting to tile the floor and wood will eventually move?

Help please
Answers:    It's your house, your conservatory and your money get them to overlay near marine ply and tile over that.
Is this one built over an area of grade yard? Have you asked why they are using that method of construction, beyond a short time ago that they are trying to sell you on the certainty that "Polystyrene" will adequately insulate? Will they use any bearing of vapor barrier? Certainly construction level foam sheet is used for insulation purposes, but perhaps solely offers a importance of R-3 per inch of thickness.

Ask them to mark out their method of construction/attachment, of the "wood" substrate to the steel frame/beams. If you're paying a contractor to do the job, I'd hope they are using no smaller amount than 3/4 ply, even doubled, and Treated or Marine Ply at that. NOT MDF or Particle board. Also inquire about them tallying concrete backer board over, as an more substrate, over which you can tile.

You don't state where you're located, so it's difficult to believe to be your environment.
