I own an Atlanta home built in the 1940's and be wondering if it was ok to cover up the crawl space vent during the winter months to keep out the cold nouns? If so, what should I use to cover the vents?
Answers: If you cover the vent, you can get condensation.
They're near for a reason.
If they be origionally sized for summer heat nouns,
( a possiblility in Atlanta), you might restrict them
somewhat contained by winter, but complete blocking is not
advisable.
I use the fiberglass paperback insulation in NJ. Whatever method you use, you want it to know how to breathe so condensation does not build up. I have hot marine baseboards and the piping is under here so I have warmness. If you have no steam source, or any equipment that requires air or vent down there, you should know how to use Styrofoam and caulk. Just keep an eye on things.
