i took out the mouth wood bit on my clarinet and i dont know how 2 put a new peice of wood thingie within
can someone please tell me the steps ?
Answers:    The wood piece is certainly made of cane, call a reed. Look at the back of the reed. There should be a number somewhere close to the end of it (2, 2 and a partially, 3, something small). Go to a music shop and ask for some "B flat clarinet reeds", and give him the number that you found. That number is the size of the reed you are getting. Individually, they should be in the order of $1-2.

Here's a link that will show you everything you'll requirement to know about putting everything hindmost together and taking better care of your instrument. The section about the reed is closer to the bottom of the page.

The wood piece is made of wicker and is called a reed. You can buy them within shops that sell musical instruments, and do not cost impressively much. Claranets are tuned to B flat and the reeds are also B flat. Each reed is shaped so that one end is gluey and the other end is shrill. One side is flat and the other side is shaped. The end that you blow is call a mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a metal ring near a tightening nut. Put one reed with the flat side facing upward..and the glutinous end of the reed must dance inside the metal ring first. Make sure that the thin periphery of the reed is level next to the edge of the mouthpiece...later tighten up the metal ring with the nut. Give the reed a couple of lick with your tongue. Rest your top teeth around 1/2 inch over the mouthpiece and curl up your bottom lip. The other end of the claranet should be more or less 6 inches away from your chest. Take a big breath and breathe into the mouthpiece steady. You should hear some musical sound but if you cant...buy some A flat reeds. If you are still not sure ask contained by any music shop.
