I'm in the process of building a brick garage/studio beside an inner thermalite block skin. One builder says I with the sole purpose need a 50mm cavity nouns gap and and another say I should fill the cavity beside insulation material. In any event I'd be pool liner the blockwork with plasterboard and would any insulate behing the drywall or even use insulated plasterboard. I'm not an expert in these matter so which approach would be better?
Before you start you need to contact the council.
You may have need of planning permission
You definately should own "building regs".

The buillding control department at the council will guide you.
Insulate the gap between the outer and the the inner skin. Use rockwool on a roll or contained by slabs. This gives a better all-round insulation. If you try to insulate from the inside, you are feasible to get cold spots here and near.

Then you can use ordinary plaster board on the inside - which is cheaper than the insulated type. The rockwool is a remarkably easy channel to solve the problem.

Good Luck.
Answers:    Didn't you have to bring Building Regs. from the council? Have you got green light? You don't want to have to knock it down at a then date. Good luck anyway.
ask at your building control office at local council for independant guidance
