Sometimes my toilet won't flush. However if we put a bit of pressure on the ballcock (hold it lightly down) it will flush. Then its OK for a while, consequently it happens again.

Answers:    Lift the lid off the cistern and look inside while you are flushing the toilet. You should be able to locate the trouble thoroughly easy and later make your adjustment.

It is probably the cuff on the flapper ball getting intertwined. When you apply extra pressure it fixes it for a while until it gets intertwined again.
