Hello i had a couple simple question about aquarium building, i purely wanted to build a top to a 20 gallon big aquarium, i want to use acrylic/plexi glass for the top.
First past its sell-by date what thickness would be the best and will not crack when i cut it??
Second does anyone know where on earth you can get the clear plastic hinge that are on most glass aquarium tops??
Please minister to!! i will defaintly apprecaite it greatly!!
Thanks
Answers:    i find that 1/8 " the best, it is strong and light. if this company won't supply to you direct then jump to the glass shop after getting the cat # and hold them order fore you.
here is another place i used to take them from but i don't know if they still do.
1/8 might be typical, but you don't state if you'll frame it or not, or have a long method, support attached, though that can be accomplished next to a piece of the clear as well.

I'd use 1/4 ", but that's a moment ago my preference, given that the top may also own to support a light, etc. I'd also step with LEXAN, not reg. plexi.

There is a product, specific to bond plexi to itself. Often sold beside a squeeze bottle, with a syringe tip hat.

The 1/8 can be scored and snapped. The scoring tool sometimes is made to fold contained by the blade like a pocket stick, and the blade end resembles a birds beak, beside teh TIP doing the scoring. That tool is inexpensive and superior for the purpose, over a box cutter, or utility knife blade. 1/4 can cut effectively cut using mask tape for your chain, perhaps clamping the plexi to a piece of wood stock for support, and using a sabre saw, near metal cutting blades, later sanding the edges of residue, as the blade will serve to cut and MELT its instrument along. HD/Lowes sell Plexi, as capably as tools, bonders, and perhaps the hinge; If not in clear, next in black.SIMILAR to the hinge used on entertainment center glass doors.
