Box joint dont fit? im using a 9/32'' box joint template .and a 1/4'' straight...

im using a 9/32'' box joint template .and a 1/4'' straight bit as the instructions told me to use..but the joint arent wide satisfactory...im not sure whats the next size up that would fit contained by the fingers any suggestions or has anyone else have this problem? right now in recent times for ONE end i enjoy to adjust the wood THREE times to get the joint wide satisfactory..thanks contained by advanced
Answers:    Welcome to woodworking. Several jigs are made for cutting box joint and are usually cut on a Table saw. If you do a dog pile search you will find several different plans and instructions in that. All have the caveat of use some dribble away wood for cutting the fingers until you get hold of the jig adjusted. A box reciprocated is fairly effortless to make, but the jig must be in the swing of things and the first few attempts may be frustrating. Good Luck.
Maybe the bushing on the bit is too big. The bit is 1/32 smaller than the template, so you shouldn't be off by that much. You should be capable of make any adjustment you need near a good, sharp chisel.

IMHO, box joint are much easier to make on a table saw.
