I want to build a six foot box to silence a noisy compressor 99%. I'm thinking of a plywood-foam-plywood wall but don't know what type and concentration of economical foam is best or if other materials would be better. Thanks.
Answers: You obviously can't trademark the box (although you could use a duct pipe to supply air) so you can't 'silence' the compressor. However a significant reduction within noise should be possible duly readily.
Here are a couple of links to advice on soundproofing nouns compressors. The second even has pictures.
The 3rd relationship is to a useful product for adjectives types of soundproofing (i.e. Green Glue), basically an elastomer that go between two rigid surfaces (like plywood) and provides a fair level of acoustic isolation between the inside and ourtside. See the correlation for further details.
Rather than Two layers of plywood, engineer the outside of plywood and glue two layer of 2" rigid foam insulation to the inside.
