I recently bought two second hand dressers. They both reek of cigarette smoke. Any design on how to get the smell out of the wood? I cleaned them with Murphy¡¯s Oil Soap, but I can still smell the smoke. Currently I own baking soda in the drawers but nothing is working.
Try bowls of distilled white vinegar in the drawers. If that doesnt work.. I dont know what will. Smoke permeate wood and really doesnt come out. I had the same problem and contained by the end I varnished the shelves I had because zilch else seemed to do the trick. Good luck.
The vinegar may well do it. If not, there is a product call Odo-Ban http://www.odoban.com/ that I purchase at my local Sams Club. Wiping down the inside with a diluted mixture should eliminate the odor. Another would be to weakly sand with a sanding block or sponge will remove that sullied surface and make the dressers smell like alien wood. Put some cedar chips in a net pouch and set it contained by there. Also try a wet report paper rolled up and put it in at hand over night. If you do get the odor out, to keep hold of it smelling fresh, tape a fabric softener sheet for the dryer contained by the inside of the drawer and add a bar of soap contained by each drawer.
Answers:    I bought a huge antique chest and it smelled horrible, just awful...not sure why or what...but I called the big NY co that I bought it from, they told me to budge to dime store or pet dept at discount store and get a box of 'activated charcoal" , same that is used surrounded by aquarium filters, and put some in respectively drawer and cabinet. I placed it in shallow bowls and closed the drawers.

Not sure how much it speeded up the process, because I also bought Fabreze spray in cleaning isle and did oil lamp mist of that to the interior and the rough back of the piece.

Additionally, I tried vinegar in small bowls surrounded by the drawers and some carpet cleaner granules surrounded by shallow bowls.

After all this, at first the smell was simply evident on real humid days...it have been 4 years and now I no longer smell anything...appreciation goodness.

I think a squirrel must own died in my chest before when the antique co have it stored ! You can see it on the left wall in the room on the association below:
Either vinegar,or pure ammonia in a bowl set inside of the drawer overnight. phone call a furniture resyorer store they may know.
