Any disadvantage to building a shed beside screw over nail? Aside from shingles, is there anywhere I should only be using nail?...
Aside from shingles, is there anywhere I should only be using nail? Or is the reason they're typically used to keep down cost?
disadvantages of using screws as anti nails to build a shed:
1. screws cost more (but hold better)
2. screw take alittle longer to install (unless you are using power tools to put them in)
3. years from now when it's time to rip the infirm shed down the screws will be harder to "undo" than the nails!
i articulate "screw it!"
Screws may cost more, but you will not have the problem of them popping up and out over time. When we are building a shed, arbors, pergolas, framing, deck, etc., we always use screws.
You can buy screw in larger quatities at most Home Centers such as Home Depot and Lowes.
Theives have screwdrivers too. screw hold better , and dipping then in dish detergent ( Dawn , etc ) will get them screw in a lot easier
Although screws take rather longer to install and have a slightly higher cost. They will hold greater holding power and not loosen over time.
I use screws whenever possible.
Answers: Screws cost more and hold longer to install. If you are nailing by hand, screw may be just as fast as nail. Also if you are more comfortable using screws, go for it. Make sure you use a galvanize or coated screw where exposed to weather. Good Luck
