Advice on removing plasterboard from around aged fireplace? I have a short time ago had a unusual Combi boiler fitted...

I have a short time ago had a unusual Combi boiler fitted and have have the old rear legs boiler and fire disconected. The fire place in which the backboiler and fire fitted surrounded by is 18 inches deep and 4 1/2 ft all-embracing and is plasterboard on a wooden frame. There is a thermalite chanell that the flue pipe runs up. What we would like to do is rip the plasterboard subdivision out to open up the room more, I am not sure roughly speaking whether it is safe to remover the thermalite bricks or not???
Answers:    Sir

Start at the chimney pot and work your means of access down to find out what the thermalite blocks are actually doing, probably supporting the chimney stack.
If so and you remove the thermalite blocks you own a problem, if you start at the top and remove the stack on down, you have a hole contained by the roof, a different problem. Perhaps you have other problems, but if you identify them since you get out the club tack hammer, they can be resolved.
Remember problems are only solutions surrounded by disguise.
Sure. Use dynamite.
