Adding an added power outlet? At the moment I am trying to wall mount a LCD tv....
At the moment I am trying to wall mount a LCD tv. Instead of running the power cord through the wall (since I know this is against many homeowner insurances); I would like to create an second outlet behind where my TV will be mounted. Luckily, in attendance is an outlet directly under the spot where I would close to to wallmount; meaning I would not have to jump through many studs to connect the additional outlet.
My quiz is, would it be ok if I just daisy chained the superfluous outlet (on the top) to the original outlet (below).
and secondly, would I just do this by attaching a unknown electrical wire to the unused terminals of the resourceful outlet (meaning hot to hot; ground to ground, etc,). And then attaching the wire to the respective terminal on the new receptacle.
The new outlet would single be used to power the TV.
Thanks in advanced.
you are fine just cut the existing wires and reconnect them into the new outlet it is if truth be told qutie simple.
the also sell the outlet box that all you dont obligation a stud to mount in
home depot you can doit we can help!!
Good answers.
ALos when using an "outmoded work" box be sure to position it about 1 to 2 inches away from the stud. The old work boxes own two arms or wings that protrude out to the sides. If you cut the hole for the box too close to a stud then the arms / wing can't deploy and hold the box in place.
Turn off the power
Position the box on the wall and outline the crack
Cut carefully
Run the wire from the existing box to the hole int he wall. Leave just about 5"-6' of wire sticking outPull the wire throughthe current box
Make the connections.

Answers: It sounds like what you want to do if fine provided the productive circuit is not overloaded. You will have to install another box in the wall for the tentative outlet. The plastic "old work" boxes work well. Also variety sure you use the correct wire. A 15 amp circuit will use 14 gauge lead and a 20 amp circuit must use 12 gauge wire.
