Answers:    try slightly sanding it, just enought so that it's not tooo bleak, then try staining it a really dark color

Sand it and refinish it. You don't read out how extensive the damage is, so that seems the best solution to the problem. You will own to sand it down past the damage. Then restain or repaint the wood. Good luck! :)
