what is a four prong outlet used for? please let me know thanks
4 prong is used for masses applications where there is a requirement for 4 wires to an appliance. we see them a lot at work with a switched live. this is where on earth an appliance has a permanent live and one i.e. working as an on off switch. so you would have 1 a globe 2 a neutral 3 a live and 4 a switched live. A four prong outlet is used for electric dryers and electric ranges. These appliances use 240volt AC power. The outlet has 2 legs of 120v AC voltage, a impartial and a ground connection. Some air conditioners also work on 240v AC.
I resembling all the other answers especialy aj but I have a new, depending on if it is in a garage or carport they make a verbs lock outlet for campers, the prongs are in a circular pattern next to all flat curved blades whole piece about one and a quarter inch across. To help identify the others if it have 3 flats and 1 round it's probably a 50amp range. If 2 flats 1 round and 1 L probably a 30amp dryer, both of these are large give or take a few 2 inch across.Hope this helps. Theres a different take on this. If the four holes are small and round it could be an elder telephone jack from days gone by. Thats how they were years ago. If it's a small little box on the wall in the order of 2 inches square with small wires running to them it's a phone line. The holes are nearly an inch square a little wider at on end.
Answers: It's call three faze wiring. You have 2 wires 110 v 1 cable ground 1 wire neutral. It's manly used for ovens, dryers and some of the elder air conditioners and furnace in a home.If you own a plug in your home and small children go to the hardware store and buy a sanctuary plug to cover it.It is the most dangerous plug in your home.
Mainly used contained by mobile homes for the dryer plug. Should be rated for 30 Amps and 240 volts sounds like a 220v plug.
