I have a 4-wire(ground, white, black ,& red) romex running to a series of lights and a supporter on my patio. There is no other rope returning back to another source or switch. Is it possible that the red be strictly used for the fan street lamp vs. a three way switch. my house be build in 1981.
Answers: what wires are connected to the switch? does the switch hold on and off on them. verbs the switch cover if it has 2 wires on 1 side and a third on the other side afterwards there is another switch connected(3way) otherwise they split the hot near 2 outputs separating the fan from the lights using one switch.
The singular way to detail for sure is to drop the bell where the aficionado is attached to the ceiling and take a peer. But you can draw inferences from whether you can run the fan and/or the lights together or separately as controlled by the verbs chains, and how any known switches on the circuit affect any of this.
