Wood stain? I have a project that involves staining a piece of wood...
I have a project that involves staining a piece of wood that I own carved a design into. I would like to use a method that would darked the etched parts, and give the remaining parts as natural as possible.
I be thinking of using a wax stain- applying the wiping the surface off- which surrounded by concept would leave stain remaining within the crevices created with the etching... would this work?
save, what would be a better method?
thanks!
Answers: Is the piece flat near the carving etched into it? If so, you may want to try using a gel stain to color the recessed portions of the piece. Then sand the surface to remove any pigment from the surface. Gel stains do not penetrate the wood as reverberatingly as regular oil stains. They tend to sit on the surface of the wood.
Should work, you can also alertly seal the parts you want not here light beside a clear wood sealer so they will not pick up the darker stain.
