We are building a new home and are pondering what cooking style to install. Range with built surrounded by ovens or cooktop with seperate ovens. We will have both LPG (propane) and electricity available. Any suggestions or comments will back.
I prefer the separate section stove. It has more variety for types, styles, colors, bits and pieces and prices. These separate units are much cheaper if need repairs or a repairman. The embark on flame of gas and propane will give you immediate boil for on and immediate for off and allows more control on the amount of warmth you desire. For those concerned with pilot lights going out and releasing gas/propane, there are stoves next to ignition light (no pilot to keep lit - - our current stove have this).

My opinion: Prefer free standing and prefer natural gas over propane and electric as end.

cooktops are more expensive, but more flexible in design. You are going to spend double the cost of a free standing range for a separate oven and cooktop.

Electric tops can provide another surface to work on, the investigational designs are flat level surfaces. Propane is generally smaller quantity expensive.

It really comes to cost, and if you like cooking using propane or natural gas.
Answers:    Matter of preference, we have have both! I probably would go with the seperate unit; cook top ( easy cleaning surface unit )and double built-in self cleaning ovens. We even have a rotissorie in one of them.
I like the quickness of gas, however I would be in motion electric over propane!
