I keep waking up at 6:00 AM thinking I overslept and it's midday. This is bad. I've got blinds but they don't do much. The problem is any curtains I see online are 84" contained by length, and I can't use them because I have a big steam heater right below respectively window. I need 42" length, max.

Try target.com ... I have shorter curtains, but they are 63" long ... they are certainly shorter than 84" though, and you could a moment ago pin them up at the top so they don't hit your steam heater (IF they are too long ... you may have measured incorrectly, since you call for to measure from 'above' the window to the BOTTOM of the windowpane frame) you can cut them. they make no sew curtains, where adjectives you have to do is cut them to the right length, or use seam tape which is a strip of material you iron between two fabrics to stick them together i.e flip the bottom up and iron it to the curtain

if you find really obedient ones (i suggest Ikea) then just simply fold them up to doesn`t matter what length you want, sew on the sides, and then iron it..
it should stay that length.

Ikea or target or give the name a store before hang gauge how long you wna tthe curtains to be then ask them if thye have it within that length. Depending on your budget, there are plent of places around...
Wal-Mart and Target on a lower end...and Bed Bath and Beyond and/or Linens-n-things are also great places.

i bought some ultimate month! get whatever you similar to and have them altered to fit your window.
I ponder you will have to have it custom made. JC Penney's does it. Ike,Ana's linens,Kmart, Target, Walmart and Los callejones.

I just received some curtains from these guys, and am chirpy with them so far. They also have blackout curtains to assistance with daylight coming in.
