I enjoy a pale oak laminate plank looking floor butting up to travertine and I'm looking for an alternative to a wood or wood-look strip (5 locations, two are fireplace hearth and three-sided )

Something that would suit modern, contemporary, random, or eclectic would work.

I'm inclined to use any sort of material (open any ideas).

Those are transition strips, they can be made from any fabric from rubber to metal. Check with a flooring store.
