i am going to remove a section of sidewalk that leads up to my house and build a frame around it and affix expansion membrane at both ends where it meets the other sidewalk section but what type of concrete do i use that will match the old as close as possible?
Answers:    You will want to proclaim your concrete from a redi-mix plant. It's expensive, but you need air-entrained concrete for sidewalk use. That means that they attach a chemical similar to soap which adds air bubbles into the mix. This help prevent cracking from expansion. A 3000 psi mix is correct. That means the fully cured concrete is rated to stand up to 3000 pounds per square inch of pressure. Hope this help.
New to old is hard to game. But if you are hand/ machine mixing yourself you can alter the mix or add colour to cut back on the difference. Use a 3/2/1 mix. If you don't know what this is then don't do it get a local handy man to do it. Luck. You can't game new concrete with a piece that have been there for a while, and have been weathered through time. You should lay a slab that is 3,000 PSI. Hope that help!
