Answers: I used regular latex eggshell sheen paint on mine and it have looked great for the past 3 years. There is a terra cotta tile around the fireplace slit, so the paint does not come into close contact with warmth escaping the fireplace. Dont use white paint, as it can become discolored easily over the top of the fireplace slit from smoke. If you dont already have it, I'd strongly suggest you install a terracotta, granite, slate or terra cotta tile surround for the perimiter of the fireplace opening.
