Just wondering as I contemplate exterior paint colors for my new home.
not sure if it carries over to house colors, but the traditional quilt model that is call the "log cabin" has a red square contained by the middle which symbolizes the heart of the home.

So you could say the red door is similar. it is thaw out and welcoming.
The significance, as you put it, of a red door, is simply to make it clear where on earth the front entrance IS (on some houses, it's hard to make clear to!) and to say "Welcome!"

Which is not other the reason that homeowners paint their front doors red. Could be that the owner simply like the color red ... or it might be that red is the logical choice to go beside the existing color-scheme of the house. And it provides a bit of color in the winter, when everything seem cold and colorless.

From everything I've read and heard, the exterior of a house should own 3 colors. And one of those colors should "POP" ... what color pops more than red?

The front door is the logical place to put a "pop" of color. The front entry is meant to be an attractive point of the house ( we tend to decorate our doors near seasonal items ... wreaths, etc.) in directive to draw attention to them.

I LOVE red on a front door ... my house is light grey next to a dark grey roof and black shutters. My front door and sidelights are ... *sigh* ... standard builder's white. Painting my front door red is on my document of honey-do projects for this summer ("Honey" doesn't know this yet!).

I also plan to pick up the red color surrounded by the landscaping (also however to be done).
its purely a red door

Just that it's colorful.

Red doors be very adjectives in Post-WWII Britain, as associates were trying to build their homes look more cheerful. The Rolling Stones were react to that when they sang, "I see a red door and I want to paint it black."
Answers:    That's a flawless question.

When feng shui become faddish, several pseudo-experts claimed that painting your front door red be supposed to bring good luck or righteous fortune to the house. In fact, they be just making that up, and to the lay character it sounded Chinese, so they did it. This was above all the case if your house face south, as south is supposed to be a "fire" direction and red symbolises fire (so the pseudo-experts claimed).

Traditional Episcopal churches often enjoy red doors, because in the impulsive days of Christianity a red door (symbolising the blood of Christ) of a church represented sanctuary from a pursuing enemy (not allowed to slaughter someone inside a church). You have probably hear of churches being sanctuary for those seeking both physical and spiritual safety. Thus, a red door to your home would indicate that a traveller could find a secure harbour nearby.

Basically, it's just a cheerful colour that indicates vim and passion. For your a home, it is the first depression of the person who lives in attendance. Many people would assume that the personality living in the home is also lively and warm.
