I need to put brand new siding on our house and wondered what is the least expensive chance? Vinyl? Wood? What?
Answers: Vinyl's rather inexpensive---until you append the labor. It's very smooth to do, so if you're handy and can do it yourself, you could save a ton of money!
If you're doing it yourself, I would articulate stucco. Nail on tarpaper and stucco wire. Rent a mixer and mix up stucco (check on file for the simple formulae) and smear it on. It takes two coats - a "score coat" and the second coat which may be colored so you never have to paint. It looks pious and is a lot more fire-resistant than vinyl. I did my villa with stucco and would presently be willing to face up to a house - a one-story house anyway.
