Cedar is a great product that withstands the outdoors without any application of materials, it weather into a really beautiful silver grey color near no treatments, and it rot and bug resistant.

i would look further into it before you apply anything, once you apply something you will enjoy to maintain it constantly, sand and reapplying throughout the years whereas if you leave it untaught you will never have to do anything to it.
