What is a good outside trim color to go next to a black roof and black shutters...and also what is a good red for the front door
I think a moss green and cream would look awesome with black shutters and roofing. if you turn with the colors suggested i would stay away from a red door - if you have to enjoy a red door go brick red or rust. otherwise use a creme moss green or black. remember paint is the easiest thing on your house to devolution - so experiment and have fun. I would do white or an off white/creamy color. Then for the front door I would use a heat up red. Don't do a red with purple or cool undertones. Do a red near a red or orange base. Check benjaminmoore.com they can show you which red is heat up or cool. Best of luck with your projects!
One of the biggest missing pieces of information is the body color of your house. Without knowing this central piece of information, here are a few general guidelines;
If you have vinyl or vinyl coated window you will need to stay with a brilliant white if you agree on you want white trim. If you choose a creamy white (yellow base) and have those vinyl windows, the window will wind up looking gray and dingy by comparison. Color is relative and derives its characteristics from the color or colors it is next to. Resist the urge to treat the cornerboards if you enjoy them like trim. They should almost always be the body color as white or buoyant cornerboards tend to outline the house making it look as if it is made of gingerbread. Delightful to eat and look at but not to live in! If you don't own vinyl windows then you enjoy many more options but like peas in a pod principles of comparison operate here too. For instance, if you have a warm body color for the house, produce sure your trim also is warm. If you put warm and cool colors subsequent to each other, they will only exaggerate their own properties, the heat will look warmer and the cool will look cooler. What usually happens is a time of war between the colors, the warm usually wins, and the cool wind up looking again dingy and dull because the warm is more powerful to the way that your eye see color. As you can see, this is a more complicated question than you may think. I hold a website dedicated to picking house colors. I would be very interested to know what the body color is so I could bestow more detailed answers. Feel free to email.

Answers: play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you close to. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I resembling that you can search by color family & color designation, the "painted" homes look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I have a sneaking suspicion that "carriage door" (# 7594) would is a great red for the door, and then paint the trim "creme" (# 7556).
