What is a perfect alternative to expensive hardwood floors? Other than laminate.

Other than laminate.
i have vinyl surrounded by my hall and the bedrooms. my friends think its a great opening cuz it looks like wood but its easy cleaned n cheaper what around the kind that u can laydown and they snap togehter i think not sure whats its call but u could ask someone at your local home depot store or lowes

parquet flooring is really inexpensive and will still give you the solid wood as well as simple installation also check out lumberliquidators .com for some really affordable prices! Check out bamboo flooring. Better than hardwood contained by wear at laminate pricing, and earth friendly.
Answers:    If you want the look of wood, I'd go for engineered wood flooring. It comes in prefinished planks, approaching a laminate floor, but the top surface is real wood (or real bamboo), not plastic laminate. So approaching solid wood flooring, each engineered wood plank has a personal grain and figure. Here's how the fabric is installed:

The cost depends largely on the quality of the flooring. I installed maple engineered flooring in my subterranean vault rec room a few years ago and it's holding up great. Wasn't terribly difficult to install, either.

Here's a broad guide to wood flooring in case you want to consider other option:
