If your surface is large pulling stain across flat paint will be difficult. The only exception to this is if in that is imagery or cut-out that allows you to work in smaller areas.

You can paint over over your polish. If you glaze have a sheen to it you may want to sand it. Definitely let the stain dry thouroughly before drawing over it.

Pulling glazes over a satin or semi gloss surface will be easier.

Always finish the complete project with a coat of clear sealer. This will even out the sheen of the together surface.
