I already have bedding, towels, and an alarm clock but that's just about it. I also already have techonology (laptop and printer/copier/scanner/fax). I am moving surrounded by sometime in August.
storage devices: shoe rack/hanger, hanger, storage bins, pencil holder, under-the-bed boxes, etc.
decorations: throw pillows, rug, pictures, posters, Christmas lights, floor lamp/lamp
typical school supplies: plenty of pen and pencils, paper, folders, etc..
etc... minifridge, microwave, books, little curios from home.
This is probably not the answer you want, but I focus the best advice is to lift as little as possible. Keep your life simple. The smaller number stuff you have surrounded by your dorm, to more space you will have. It will also be easier to preserve clean and tidy.
That self said, obviously you will want plenty of study supplies, tabloid, pencils, pens, etc. And when I be in the dorms I couldn't live beside out several house plants and a good coffee pot. :)

Answers: - Bring a storm lantern. Dorm lighting is usually really bad.
- Full Length mirror( you can swing it on the back of the door; works resourcefully with those glue velcro strips).

- Paper towels, tissues, cleaning supplies(clorox wipe work for almost anything, very useful). & paper/plastic cups plates, utensils are other useful.
- Tylenol, midol, nyquil, allergy medicine(anything you use regularly) & fashion sure you dont for get to buy shampoo, cotton swabs, soap, etc
It sounds like you enjoy basiclly everything. Think about what you may use within a typicall week and see if need those things. See if you can live short them. I have taken a small fridge and microwave. But usually the dorm have a public microwave. What about laundry soap, will you be going home on weekends? Or doing laundry at hand. Handy to keep shoulder bag of quarters if you will be doing laundry in attendance. take pictures to swing also. That way you own some comfort from home=]
