I am obsessed with things such as physical pirates, royalty, medieval times, dragons, and other things like that.
I was considering drawing my room to look like either an old-fashioned tavern, a cabin of an old ship, or a royal bedroom resembling you would find in a castle. I was sloping more towards the first two though.
Most of the things in my room are wood, particularly light-colored wood, such as the floor, and plentiful of the decorations relate to my favorite things; such as swords, pictures of the ocean, and collectable knights.
I have be searching for hours without luck trying to find the unblemished colors for the walls of my room. I was thinking a color like mahogany. In standard a color in the families of pallid, red, and/or brown.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
either ginger, red, and light green I think you should consider a wallpaper, resembling one of these:

I would do three walls gold and one wall black or 3 walls black and one gold OR do three stone walls and hold a castle door painted on the 4th =] A textured rich gold color.
Answers: As someone who is planning this very point for their bedroom, I myself am leaning towards golds or towards a rich red faux finish. If you have a favorite picture of something from that era ('The Accolade', for instance, is of a man self knighted; dragons, unicorns, anything really), try using that as inspiration for room colors.
Generally, rich colors work very well contained by this setting. Go with colors that have a thaw out tone to them.
Also, if you wish for wallpaper, pick colors that come from or complement the wallpaper/mural. One thing that can work is wallpaper on one wall, afterwards the colors on the other three.
If you went with the tavern, see if you can find some ancient looking lighting options. The wood in your bedroom would be faultless for either that or the ship. You can also paint the wood to make it look elder.
Also, if you go with the tavern or ship, at hand are faux finishes that make a regular wall (not wood), look like, very well, wood.
It is a difficult task, so I understand (been looking for months myself). Also, at hand are some websites online for this purpose, my favorite being http://www.marbleslawn.com/medievalhome. and its linking sites. Make sure to visit the linking sites! They're drastically good for finding things or even just philosophy.
Also, when looking for stuff to decorate with or freshly to find inspiration, try looking for flea markets and sales, but don't be afraid to look at places approaching Hobby Lobby, which sometimes has very nice things for especially cheap.
I hope I could help a little.
