I'm moving into a studio soon. I've already gotten a black bedspread, some black furniture, and a 3 large painting which are shadows of trees on a red/orange background.
What paint would complement the black furniture and red/orange paintings?
A light shade of brown, approaching a tan, or cream color. That would set off the red, and red background, and goes great near black. A buttery yellow may work!
I would turn with white. Anything goes beside white. Then I would add a few things in bright red to really set it stale with those black items. It would also make the room look larger. The color sandstone (its a brown color) would look great it would bring out the colors within your paintings and would look great against your black spread.Good Luck!
Answers: play around beside the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I similar to how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color line & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color scheme. You can literally spend hours:

I think a light heat neutral like "windsor greige" (# 7528) would look terrific near the red & black.
You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can go and get an idea of what it will look like.
