play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you resembling. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I resembling how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can check out by color family & color cross, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color scheme. You can literally spend hours:

I would paint the cupboards an off-white like "dover white" (# 6385). Lighter colored cupboards really minister to brighten up the kitchen a lot. As for the wall color, I surmise a light blue approaching "aviary blue" (# 6778) would look terrific with the red & black accent. Check out how cool the red & blue & white looks in this kitchen makeover:

Answers: intuitively i like table lamp cabinets.
is the wall space small later i would paint red. cabinets white near black trim.
if a lot of wall consequently leave white, cabinet a light red next to black trim
hope this gives you some design.
Interesting combination. I would go for a medium-dark grey near slight blue tinge. It would bridge the contrast in the other colours alot. Something close to the colour in this sofa:

Too much black will look grating and it sounds like near is enough of that already. Unless you're planning to makeover the full thing, stick to colour specifically complimentary and not conflicting.
First, do you enjoy written permission from the homeowner/landlord to paint the cabinet?
If you dont' have it within writing, DON'T paint them.
The cost to repaint cabinets is incredibly glorious and when you leave you might find out your "nice landlord" is a complete *ss.
Get it within writing and have the tenant sign off on the color choice.
Personally, I would just use white. But that is simply me.
sounds close to my color scheme contained by my kitchen
I painted my cabinets white my walls a open red(my appliances are black and pots are red) I totally love it
