My bedroom is about 11'8" X 10'4". There are two big windows, so it's bright, basically kinda small. There is a huge closet, so a dresser isn't really neccassary. I was wondering how I could open up the space (as surrounded by, what furnitures to use, what colors) without painting the walls (or using a LIGHT color, it's a rental). Help??
Light colors are devout for creating an open look...maybe something dull like a cream or super light taupe. Also paint adjectives the walls the same color to give the apparition of continuity. An age old trick of interior decorators of the use of mirrors. For your small space I would think nearly mirrors with thin frames as the frames break up the continuity. minimizing furniture pieces and even considering using shelving attached to the walls open up space on the floor and helps the room to appear more open. And logically, avoid any clutter. Also if you don't need a dresser.a bed and a sitting chair would be a correct option.and have the stool somewhere opposite of the bed.just save it minimal...think modern guest room... get a huge mirror to put on one wall. You will be amazed how much larger the room looks. Also budge with white bedspread and pillows. Find white and ashen drapes for the windows. Buy some plants to put in the room. Also buy storage boxes for clutter if you hold any. Buy a picture of an ocean and palm trees. Get a bright lamp on your darkness stand.
Are you looking to open up the room, or just create the apparition of a bigger room? One of the easiest ways to make a room feel larger than it is is to hang down a large mirror on your widest wall. The bigger the mirror, the bigger it will make your room have a feeling. You see this a lot in hotel bathrooms where on earth it is the entire length of the room and makes it feel huge. You can also use magnets to dangle decorations from your mirrors if you want to make it look a bit different.

Godd luck with doesn`t matter what you decide to do with it. :-)
Answers:    Hi Elise. You could purloin the closet doors off and store them. That makes a room look closely bigger fast. Use of mirrors.but spend..ee if you don't have some, is nice...white ceiling is fitting (imo) after the doors are off a little clever thinking can build the closet very "trick".remember horizontal lines make things look longer.so a wainscoating bench molding will lengthen a room. If it was yours , you could push the window out and make seating or thoughts of choice out of them. reading, pillows.something cool. lots of luck.hold fun
Tear the closet down and reconstuct your room
