when using tw56 dry wall sheeting (which apparently has an inbuilt mist barrier) - does a vapour row sheet still have to be fixed between these sheets and the timber oxters etc.
Ideas to uppdate this fireplace (pic included)?
Answers:    You do not and should not apply a vapor barrage to the existing framing as having two vapor barrier can and will cause condensation to build inwardly your wall. Which as I'm sure you are aware can cause mold. Here is a information sheet on this product.

yes you need to wool between the studs , afterwards fix the vapour ring to the stud, you can then sheet it near drywall sheets, single sheet, double is what i would use.
